Dining in Luoyang

No visitor should miss sampling the famous Water Banquet. The main dishes of this 24-course meal are soups and are served up with the speed of “flower water”-hence the name.
Zhen Bu Tong Fandian: (one of s kind restaurant; Tel: 399 5787; Zhongzhou Donglu) This is the place to come for a water banquet experience—one half is for the hoi polloi, one section is up market. If 24 courses seem a little excessive, you can opt to pick individual dishes from the menu. So overwhelmingly crowed is this place you may get lost in the service shuffle—harried staff tend to ignore nervous travelers.

Night market: (Nandajie Yeshi; cnr Nan Dajie & Zhongzhou Donglu) This lively market in the old city is a great place for dinner. Barbecued beef and squid, cold dishes and an assortment of bugs can be had for as little as ¥2 per dish. Other tasty roadside snacks include Jianpao and dousha gao.
Luoyang Dasha: (Daonan Lu) Opposite the train station, this friendly little Sichuan canteen has a fractured-English menu and excellent inexpensive.
